Vilanova i la Geltru (ESVLG)

The harbour, which fronts the town, is formed by 2 moles and is well protected from winds. The port handles general cargo and dry bulk.

Vilanova i la Geltru is situated on the located on the E coast of El Garraf, on the Spanish Mediterranean coast mid way between Barcelona and Tarragona.

Largest vessel handled, LOA 135m, 7,500DWT and 6.5m draught from the latest audit.

Anchorage can be obtained approx 900m offshore between Punta de San Gervasio and Dique de Poniente in a depths of 7.0-11.0m.

Dique de Levante extends SSE and then generally SW for nearly 1nm from Punta de San Cristobal. A light is exhibited from its head. Dique de Poniente, with Nuevo Contradique at its S end, extends 730m S from the shore from a position about 730m W of the root of Dique de Levante. A short spur extends E from a position 640m from the root of Dique de Levante. A light is exhibited from a red tower on a white base, 3.0m in height, at the head of Nuevo Contradique. A further light is exhibited from a red tower on a white base, 5.0m in height, at the head of Nuevo Contradique.

Pilotage is compulsory. The pilot is informed by the vessel's agent of ETA 24 hours in advance of arrival. Messages may be passed through Barcelona Radio. Pilot monitors VHF Ch 16 and boards vessels at the approach to the breakwaters.
