Villaricos (ESVCR)

The port is no longer used by commercial vessels and there are plans to develop the area into a major marina over the next few years.

Summer.

Villaricos is situated approx 38nm NE of Almeria.

Anchorage during offshore winds only, can be obtained off Villaricos approx 0.37nm offshore in depths between 15.0-20.0m, mud and good holding ground. Although SE and E winds blow directly onshore at this anchorage, they do not usually blow strongly but E winds, which prevail in Feb-Mar, are considered dangerous. SW winds do not often blow strongly either, and those from S are rare; with good ground tackle vessels can nearly always ride out the bad weather at this anchorage. In the evening, there is usually a land wind or a calm; it would nevertheless, be prudent to put to sea should a change indicate an E wind, which usually begins with a light breeze from SSE, gradually increases and is accompanied at times by showers. Winds from the E sometimes shift to NW, which is the prevailing and strongest wind, and impedes loading operations.
