Sagunto (ESSAG)

The port consists of harbour basins protected by the North Breakwater 1,105m in length running E-W and the Levante Breakwater 1,368m in length running N-S. Major import/export cargo are iron and steel product, ammonia anhydride, natural gas and new unregistered vehicles. There is also fishing harbour.

Sagunto is situated 10nm N of Valencia.

Max draught 14.5m, LOA 345m, beam 53.8m, 130,208DWT.

Approx 7,500,000t of cargo, 58,000TEU and 1,400 vessels handled annually.

Anchorage can be obtained in good holding ground 0.6nm E of Escollera de Levante in depths 15.0-17.0m or in 20.0m E to SE of the ore loading pier, good holding. Dangerous cargo vessel anchorage can be obtained 4.3nm S of Cabo Canet.

Harbour approached through a channel with depth of 17.5m, 180m width, 1250m length and marked with light and buoys along the waterway. ..... Compulsory. Pilot boarding point is 1.3nm (2-2.5nm for LNG vessels) SE from the breakwater, call the pilot on VHF Ch 12.

A safety zone of 2nm between LNG vessels and all other vessels required, therefore no inbound or outbound traffic permitted during LNG vessel manoeuvres. Initially only daylight movements of LNG vessels permitted and standby tug required throughout period alongside.

Customs requirements: If vessels carry over 6kg of tobacco per man, the excess to be declared in a separate manifest, which must be visaed by Spanish Consul at the last port, and stored in a separate locker, otherwise vessels are exposed to heavy fines.

Notify ETA to Valencia Port Authority and the vessel's agent by cable 7 days and 24 hours prior to arrival.

If the vessel proceeds directly to the berth, pratique can be obtained immediately after berthing, otherwise at anchorage on arrival. If any vessel has sickness onboard of a contagious nature, the Master should advise the Health Authorities by radio, and they will examine patients upon arrival, to enable the vessel to be granted free pratique. Ship Sanitation Control Certificate (SSCC) and Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificate (SSCEC) renewed.
