Almeria (ESLEI)

The port is protected by the W mole which is approx 1,800m in length. Cargo handled: Exports: Cement, clinker, bentonite, salt and gypsum in bulk, fruit and vegetables, wine, steel and iron products, food products, paper and paste, building materials, machine parts, automobile parts and other general cargo. Imports: Fertilisers, cement, clinker, pet coke, marble, perlite and peat in bulk, fruit and vegetables, canned goods, wine, steel and iron products, food products, paper and paste, woods, frozen fish, building materials, machine parts and general cargo. Ferry and cruise passengers.

Almeria is situated on the SE coast of Spain in the Gulf of Almeria, midway between Malaga and Cartagena.

Draught 13.32m, LOA 199m, 36,362 DWT.

Approx 1,900,000t of cargo, 9,000TEU, 1800 vessels and 960,000 passengers are handled annually.

Good anchorage is available at a distance of approx 2nm from the breakwater, SW of the lighthouse (red light), in depths of approx 70m.

Entry Channel SE: Width 200m, Length 498m, Low Tide Depth 13.0m. Entrance Mouth SE: Width 300m, Low Tide Depth 13.0m.

There is a MRCC and a lifeboat station available.

Vessels on arrival must contact the pilot station on VHF Ch 16, to receive berthing instructions.

Compulsory, available 24 hours. Pilots board 1nm off the breakwaters, in bad weather the pilot will board at the port entrance under the lee of the breakwater.

The port limits are enclosed between two lines, the first in a 122° direction from Puntazo de el Palmer, the second in the parallel of Punta del Rio to its intersection with the first line.

Range 0.63m.

There are 1 x 2,500hp and 1 x 2,550hp diesel tugs available. It is possible to obtain a further 2 x 2,550hp tugs from a nearby port if required.

A port of entry, there are no special regulations in force. The Customs house is located within the harbour boundaries, office hours 0800-1400hrs. Cargo/vessels can be cleared after office hours.
