Algeciras is an important centre for handling international transhipments and direct container cargoes, also a terminus for the busy ferry and Ro-Ro traffic between Spain and North Africa. Petroleum products are handled at the oil refinery and associated SBM at the head of the bay where the largest tankers afloat can be handled. The ports of Campamento, Endesa and Tarifa are sub ports of Algeciras. Development work is continuing at Campamento port and Isla Verde Container Terminal, see developments section.
