📋 Port Overview
✓ ISPS✓ ECAEcoPort
Brunsbuttel consists of four harbours, the main harbour being Elbeharbour (Elbehafen) which is directly on the Elbe River and three harbours inside the Kiel Canal. The port handles all traffic entering and leaving the SW end of the canal through locks which divide the port into Elbehafen Brunsbuttel and Brunsbuttel Binnenhafen, tidal and non tidal areas, respectively, where a variety of commercial cargoes are handled. The majority of cargo handled at Elbeharbour is crude oil, liquid gas and a wide range of bulk commodities. The following cargoes are handled: Heavy lifts, timber, iron, steel, bulk cargoes such as coal, ore, fertiliser, stones and liquid cargoes such as crude oil and liquid gas.

General notices & regulations
Special regulations for gas tankers: ..... 1. Gas must only be imported in bulk in tankers which are suitable for such traffic from the aspects of type of construction, equipment and operation. Gas tankers must conform at least to the stipulations of the Code for the Construction and Equipment of Vessels for Carrying Liquid Gas in Bulk (IMO-Res.A.328(IX)) in the currently valid manner. 2. Gas tankers must carry a certificate, issued by their national Ship Safety Authorities or a recognised classification society, in which it must be stated that the vessel conforms to the stipulations in point (1) above. 3. For import and discharge of liquid gas, only sea going tankers are permitted. In this connection, the following quantity limitations per vessel and per individual tank must be respected: a. Gas tanker with deep frozen liquid cargo (atmospheric tanker) and b. Gas tanker with semi frozen cargo (semi pressure tanker) Max load per ship 15,000mі Max load per individual tank 6,000mі c. Gas tank with liquid cargo under pressure (full pressure tanker) Max load per ship 6,000mі Max load per individual tank 1,000mі 4. The quantity limitations quoted in point (3) include amounts to be carried onwards for discharge at further ports. If the cargo volume of the vessel or of a loaded individual tank permits an amount of cargo to be carried which is greater than that stipulated in point (3), the Port Authority must be presented with a written declaration issued by an independent, sworn competent person of authority to the effect that the stipulation quantity limitations have been upheld. 5. The release of cargo vapours for the purpose of reducing pressures and/or temperature adjustment, except in emergency cases, is forbidden. 6. Whilst gas tankers are on the River Elbe, no materials like alkine (acetylene), polyine (polyacetylene), allene, kumulene, MAPP gases, may be carried onboard as cargo. ("Rules for the Protection of Nuclear Power Stations against Pressure Waves Resulting from Chemical Reactions" dated 1 August 1976). 7. Vessels to dock against ebb tide with port side alongside. In case this requirement cannot be fulfilled due to an eventual delay during the river passage or any other unforeseeable reasons, a turning manoeuvre in a position E of the berth must be prevented (ie, acceptance of additional tugs). 8. A radio telephone connection is to be established between the security vessel and the personnel on the jetty and the fire-fighting centre and the vessel. The radio telephone connection must secure a duplex communication. Furthermore radio telephone communication must be established in good time prior to vessels berthing. 9. Sufficient and suitable mooring personnel must be arranged for mooring and unmooring. The number of crew must be large enough to secure a quick and safe mooring manoeuvre. The local Harbour Authorities can order the acceptance of additional suitable personnel for this purpose. 10. The vessel must be tied up at the Elbe Harbour in such a way that a parting of the moorings (breaking, melting, burning) may not occur. At least 3 head lines, 3 stern lines, 1 forward spring and 1 after spring are to be made fast. At least 1 head line, 1 stern line, 1 forward and 1 aft spring must be of steel wire construction. 11. For berthing and unberthing at the Elbe Harbour Quay in way of the fire fighting monitors at least two tugs must be accepted. The engine capacity of the tugs must be sufficient to assist the vessel in all wind, current and ice conditions. The engine capacity of each tug must be at least 1,600hp. Vessels of less than 3,000GT equipped with a working bow thruster may depart with one tug less, weather permitting. 12. While discharging, the passing traffic is to be observed. In case a vessel comes too close, gas discharging/loading is to be stopped. 13. While handling gases, bunkering is not permitted. 14. LPG carriers may not be berthed at the Elbe Harbour together with laden or non gas free, non inerted tankers, whose last cargo had a flash point of below 61°C. 15. No vessels may make fast alongside a gas tanker while handling cargo. 16. During extreme weather conditions (thunderstorms, hurricanes) the handling of liquid gas is to be stopped. 17. The vessel must leave the berth immediately upon completion of cargo operations.
Health regulations
Pratique is automatically granted to vessels entering the harbours for loading/unloading. Ship Sanitation Control and Exemption Certificate renewed.
Notices of readiness
Notice of Readiness to be tendered by telex or fax at "Elbe-1" pilot station or on arrival at load or discharge berth and load ready/ready for discharge. Will be signed for receipt on arrival.
