Santa Cruz del Sur (CUSCS)

The fishing port of Ensenada Bonita consists of a main wharf, 300m in length with a depth alongside of 3.0m. Anchorage may be obtained for larger vessels in Fondeadero San Juan in depths from 5.0m to 16m. Spacious and well sheltered anchorage may also be found in Fondeadero Mordazo, both within port limits. Guayabal (see separate entry), 40km E, can handle two large vessels, max draught 9.8m and Manopla, 15km E, loads vessels at anchor from lighters in depths ranging from 7.9m to 12.1m. The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should it re-open.

Santa Cruz del Sur is situated on the coast of Golfo de Guacanayabo in SE Cuba.

Draught 3.0m.

Anchorage for larger vessels may be obtained in Fondeadero San Juan in which the depths shoal gradually from 16m to 5.0m at a distance of 1.5nm off the N shore.

The main approach from seaward is by Cuatro Reales Channel which has a width of 15.2m and a depth of 10.7m. The final approach to the port is marked by light beacons. South approach: From the inshore end of Cuatro Reales Channel (20°30'N 077° 58'W) the route leads N passing E of Banco Mosquito (20°32'N 077°58'W) and then through waters clear of charted dangers to Fondeadero San Juan anchorage. East approach: Fondeadero San Juan may be entered from the E by Canal de Media Luna (20°36'N 077°53'W) passing N of Cayo Media Luna and S of Cayos San Juan. This channel is not marked.

Radio: Customs Coast Radio Station "CLA CU" can be used for passing messages. The station operates throughout 24 hours. Inmarsat is the preferred method of communication and should be used to contact agents, whenever possible.

Initial ETA should be sent on departure from last port. If time permits, further ETA's should be sent 10, 7, 5, 3 and 1 day prior to arrival. The messages must include date and time of arrival and expected draughts on arrival.

Free pratique should be requested by radio. Health certificates can be renewed by phytosanitary organisations.

Normally tendered when a vessel is ready to work cargo or on arrival at the outer roads of the port if no anchorage is available.
