San Andres Island (COADZ)

The port mainly handles general cargo and liquid cargo.

Tropical.

San Andres Island, under Colombian jurisdiction, is situated in the W Caribbean 100nm off the Nicaraguan coast.

Largest vessel handled, 3,000DWT and draught 5.3m from the latest audit.

Anchorage is available adjacent to the approach channel lightbuoy in depths of 5.5-9.0m and SW of Cayo Cordoba Light, depth 11.0m, sand.

The approach to the port is made from the S with Punta Hansa bearing 359°, just open E of Cayo Corboda Light. The harbour is entered passing the Approach Lightbuoy through a buoyed channel leading NNW for a distance of 2.25nm to the wharf, suitable for vessels with a draught of 4.6m.

Compulsory. Vessel movements restricted to daylight hours only. Pilot boards in position 12°32.2'N 081°41.1'W, near the approach lightbuoy.

Cayo Cordoba Light, (white tower, red bands, 19m in height), 12°33'N 081°41'W. Punta Sur Light (orange tower) 12°28.9'N 081°43.7'W. Isla San Andres Aero Light (radio mast) 12°35.1'N 081°41.7'W.

Shoal depths are reported to exist in the entrance to the bay.

Off the N end of the island the set is usually W at a considerable rate, except with Northers when it is S. Variable currents may also be experienced.
