Shilong (CNSHL)

The main cargoes handled in the port are coal, metallic and non-metallic ore, ore material, chemical fertiliser, agricultural chemical and manufactured goods for daily use. The port of Shilong has an overall shoreline of 6km with a land area of 140,000mІ and a water area of 1,200,000mІ. It has 2 operational areas, Laogang and Xingang. Laogang area: This area is located on the S bank of the N main stream of the Dongjiang River. Xingang area: This area is located on the N bank of the N main stream of the Dongjiang River.

The port of Shilong is located in Shilong town where the S branch stream of the Dongjiang River separates from the N main stream of the Dongjiang River on the lower reaches on the Zhujiang (Pearl) River Delta. The Dongjiang River is the main navigating route for ships to visit ports on the river, along the coastline and ports in south-eastern Asia.

There are 3 anchorages totalling 24,000mІ, which can accept ships up to 300DWT. Longdiwei anchorage: Consisting of a water area of 10,000mІ, depth 1.5m. Shilongtou anchorage: Consisting of a water area of 12,000mІ, depth 1.5m. Shahekou anchorage: An anchorage used for shelter, it has a water area of 2,000mІ depth 1.5m.

The highest water level in history was 6.69m and the lowest was 0.02m.

Prevailing wind: Wind occurs SE'ly between late spring and late autumn and NE'ly between late autumn and late spring. The annual average wind velocity is 3.7kts and the max is 35kts. The average number of days on which wind is more than force 6 is 16 days. Typhoons occur between Jun and Oct and last for 2 to 3 hours each time which affects operations in the port by 1 day. Mist: Fog mainly occurs in Mar and lasts for 3 to 4 hours each time. Operations in the port are not affected. Temperature: The average annual temperature is 22°C, the highest is 38°C and the lowest is 1°C.
