Huanghua Pt (CNHUH)

The port area of Huanghua is located approx 4.0nm NE of Xincun Village. The main cargoes handled in the port are coal, construction material and bulk cement. There are seven coal berths owned and operated by the Shenhua Group Corporation. Huanghua has recently undergone considerable expansion with new container, general cargo and bulk berths in the South Port and the newer port area to the North. The port expects to expand to 80kmІ and operate 209 berths handling coal and other bulk cargoes. The city of Huanghua is now part of a higher level prefectural city, Cangzhou.

Huanghua located on the W edge of Bohai Gulf approx 40nm S of Tianjin and 115nm E of Longkou by sea.

Max LOA 338m, beam 58m, draught 18.5m and 264,340DWT.

Approx 330,000,000t of cargo (including 217,000,000t of coal and 66,000,000t of iron ore) and 1,000,000TEU handled annually.

Anchorages are located in the approaches to the southern part of the port: ..... No 6 (temporary) 38°38'35.88"N 118°27'54.44"E, in depths of approx. 17.0m, mud. No 4 38°32'18.40" 118°13'51.31", in depths between 12 to 15m, mud. No 3 38°30.12'N 118°26.85'E, in depths of approx. 15.0m, mud. No 2, Pilot and Quarantine 38°28.53'N 118°18.34'E, in depths of approx. 12.0m, mud. No 1, Pilot and Quarantine 38°25.74'N 118°10.79'E, in depths of approx 9.0m, mud. Vessels are required to contact Huanghua VTS with time of anchoring and anchoring position, relative to the S breakwater beacon (38°20.0'N 117° 55.0E)plus all information listed for ETA.

The older part of the port to the South has a buoyed channel approx 21.5nm in length with a leading line of 239.5° starting from port hand marker No A12 (38° 31.31'N 118°19.10'E, red light) and starboard hand marker No A11 (38°31.48'N 118°18.98'E, green light). The Zonghegangqu Light Buoy (safe water) 38° 34.74'N 118°21.35'E is located approx 2.0nm to the NE. The N and S breakwaters for the South Port extend out approx 7.5nm from the harbour. The channel is approx 2,000m wide at the beginning of these, with a minimum width of 615m approx 2.0nm from the coal berths, depth 14m. The newer berths to the North have a separate, buoyed channel approx 23nm in length also with a leading line of 239.5° starting from port hand marker No 202 (38°33.63'N 118°19.21'E, red light) and starboard hand marker No 201 (38° 33.76'N 118°19.12'E, green light). A safe water marker is located approx 2.0nm to the NE. Nearer the harbour, a line of groyne markers (yellow with lights) numbered 1 to 6 runs parallel to this channel on its Northern side, stretching approx 7.0nm out from the new berths.

MSA requirments, coal ship or boat captain over 210m and beam over 322.2m must apply for special approval procedures and require two pilots, pilotage, including at least one pilot.

The port is subject to irregular semi-diurnal tide. The max tidal range is 4.14m and the average is 2.30m. It lasts on an average for 5.5 hours during the flood and for 6.4 hours during the ebb. The flow is reciprocal, it flows westbound at a speed of 0.6-1.2kts and ebbs eastbound at a speed of 0.5-1.2kts.

Huanghua VTS System has recently been updated. Operating 24hrs, the system is controlled by the Changzhou Maritime Safety Administration Traffic Control Centre. Prevailing wind: SW'ly and SSW'ly at a frequency of 11.0%. The max wind speed is 60kts. The frequency of wind exceeding 33kts is 0.4%. The port is not affected by typhoons. Rainfall: The average annual rainfall is 501mm. The max rainfall is 719mm and the min is 336mm, 73.4% of the annual rainfall occurs in the summer. Mist: There are on average 13 days of fog, annually, when visibility is less than 1,000m. The max is 20 days and the min is 8 days. Temperature: The average annual temperature is 12°C. Max 38°C Min -19°C. The average temperature between Jul and Aug is 26°C and -5°C in Jan. Ice: The average ice period over the year is 91 days. Ice is mostly formed in the shallow water extending from the banks and seashore for 2.0 to 3.0nm. It is 25cm thick on average in the shallow water area and 35cm at most at the river entrance.

Vessels should send ETA 72, 48 and 24 hours in advance. ..... The following information should be reported for ETA and ETD: 1. Vessel name 2. Vessel nationality 3. Call sign 4. Draught, LOA, beam and tonnage 5. Last port of call 6. ETA 7. type and quantity of cargo 8. Number of crew and passengers. Subsequent to this, and prior to entering the VTS area, vessels are required to report vessel name, nationality, ETA, and navigation intentions to the Huanghua VTS. Note: A vessel's next port of destination should be reported, prior to departure from Huanghua.

..... Permission to execute operations must be granted by the VTS Centre a min of 20 minutes in advance of arriving alongside a berth, moving from one berth to another or departing from a berth. Completion of operations must subsequently be reported, with the following information: 1. Vessel name 2. Time of arrival or departure from a berth or anchorage. 3. Position 4. Next port of destination.
