Quemchi (CLQMC)

Vessels, majority fishing, anchor in the well-sheltered bay of Quemchi, within the Caucahue Channel. The depths of anchorage range between 22m to 27m. Vessels may also anchor a ship's length from the shore within depths of 11m to 15m. Numerous piers are located onshore however these are used on a recreational basis.

Quemchi is located S of the narrows in the Caucahue Channel, between Caucahue and Chiloe Island, approx 600nm S of Valparaiso.

Anchorage within the bay ranges between 22m to 27m. Vessels may also anchor a ship's length from the shore with depths of 11m to 15m.

Entrance to the bay is via the southern arm of the Caucahue Channel.

There is no pilot, however the channel pilot for Magellan will assist.

A church stands on an islet and a well-lit sawmill approx 0.8m NNW of the church are both conspicuous landmarks.

Numerous fish pens are located throughout the bay of Quemchi and within the Caucahue Channel.

Vessels entering Chilean waters must at all times fly the Chilean flag at the foremast and also whilst in port. Fines for not complying may be imposed by the authorities.

NOR should be tendered upon arrival at the anchorage.

Masters must report their position, course, speed and ETA next port as soon as they enter Chilean waters (200nm) to Directemar Valparaiso by cable. Thereafter, the same information is to be sent daily, whilst in Chilean waters, at 0800hrs and 2000hrs. Reports to be sent via Playa Ancha Radio.
