Portneuf (CAPTN)

The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. The freshwater harbour is open all year, but occasionally the assistance of ice breakers may be required in the spring. Mainly used for St Basile Cement raw material deliveries. The main cargoes handled are sand, stone, ore and general merchandise.

Portneuf is located on the N shore of the St Lawrence River, approx 35nm upstream to the W of Quebec and downstream from Richelieu rapids.

Approx 80,000t of cargo are handled annually.

Anchorage is available outside the tidal stream approx 0.4nm SW of the pier head.

The channel is dredged to a depth of 10.7m.

Portneuf leading lights: Front light (orange daymark, black stripe on a square framework tower, 18m in height), (46°41'N 071°52'W). Rear light (similar daymark, on a red framework tower, 4m in height, with a white upper part), 602m NNE of the front light. The alignment (028.5°) of these lights leads from a position 1.5nm WNW of Pointe au Platon, for a distance of approx 1.25nm SSW.

Prevailing winds: Cover the arc SW to NNW.

Messages may be passed through Quebec Radio, callsign "VCC".
