Oakville South Terminal owned by Suncor Energy Products Partnership still operate this site as a storage terminal.

Oakville port is located on Lake Ontario, approx midway between Toronto and Hamilton.

Masters should note that the dock is exposed. Easterly winds of 20 knots can cause waves that move vessels enough to contact the dock, so vessels may need to leave to prevent damage. Sustained southwesterly winds can cause similar issues. Vessels using mooring wires must have synthetic mooring tails and shackles as per OCIMF MEG 4 guidelines. Mooring lines, like spring lines, should be of the same material and length. Mixed mooring is not allowed. The Master is responsible for securing the tanker, but the terminal expects vessels to be safely moored. Possible, breast lines should be at right angles and spring lines parallel to the vessel’s length.

Tugs are available from Hamilton to assist vessels which require support for manoeuvring.

Conditions may worsen quickly, especially with easterly or sustained southwesterly winds. Masters should closely monitor weather forecasts and stay prepared to evacuate the berth at full power on short notice. Masters can consult The Great Lakes Marine Weather Guide by Environment Canada and the Sailing Directions for helpful weather data in the area.

Master must provide ETA information in accordance with the charter party terms and notify the terminal operations center of their ETA 24 hours and 4 hours before arrival. The vessel should also email a crew list prior to arrival to oaksecurity@suncor.com.
