Griffin Venture Terminal (AUGRV)

The Griffin Venture FPSO has been removed from this position and renamed, as the oil from this field has depleted.

South Indian Ocean Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical May 1 to Nov 30, Summer Dec 1 to Apr 30.

The Griffin Venture Terminal operates in the Griffin, Scindian and Chinook oil fields in the Indian Ocean, located 23.5nm NW of Thevenard, off the western coast of Australia.

A recommended anchorage is shown on the chart 6nm SSW of the terminal. Anchorage is strictly prohibited in the exclusion zone. The exclusion zone is centred on Griffin Venture and extends in a 5nm radius around it. It also extends 1nm either side of the sub sea natural gas pipeline. The wet season is during the summer months of Oct-Mar, when prevailing winds will be in the S-SW quadrant. During the summer months the region is subject to occasional cyclones, Dec-Apr is the most active period. In Jan and Feb in particular, weather and sea state conditions may prevent mooring (and loading) for periods of up to a few days. During the winter months, Jun to Aug, the prevailing winds are in the S-SE quadrant. There are 2 transitional periods Apr/May and Sep, when the wind direction is not predominantly from any particular direction. The terminal is an open and unsheltered mooring. Weather conditions and forecasts are closely monitored before the arrival of a vessel and during loading. In the event of deteriorating weather or the approach of a cyclone, the facility will be closed down and the off take vessel released.
