Puerto Parana (ARPRA)

Vessels can approach from either side of Isla Puente, shallow draught vessels can approach the port from the W passing SW of Isla Puente. Deeper draught vessels must use the main river channel passing N of Isla Puente then approach the port from the E passing though the channel leading SE of Isla Puente.

1000.

River pilotage along the Rio Parana is available 24 hours per day and is provided by various companies. Harbour pilots take over at each port.

Depth signals indicating least depth in the entrance channel are shown from a mast on the E side of the entrance to the basin. The max depth indicated will be 7.3m, if this depth is exceeded no signals are shown. In daylight, depths are indicated by black balls displayed horizontally on both yard arms. At night the balls are each replaced by one white light. The balls/lights on the port yardarm each indicate a depth of 1.5m, those on the starboard yardarm each indicate a depth of 0.3m. A black square flag (one green light, at night) from the masthead indicates the river is rising. A black square flag, (one red light, at night) from the port yardarm indicates the river is falling. Absence of these signals indicates the river level is stationary.

The port approach is obstructed by a bar with a minimum depth of 3.9m over it and therefore only accessible to ocean going vessels at periods of very high water.
