Sumbe (AONDD)

The port is currently closed to commercial traffic. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. Sumbe consists of a roadstead anchorage for ocean going vessels and a lighterage jetty. The principal exports were coffee, palm oil, nuts, wax, cotton and skins.

Sumbe is situated between Porto Amboim and Lobito.

Vessels will find the best anchorage in depths of from 7.3-13m, with the fort bearing 095°.

Sumbe Light is exhibited from a black column near a white dwelling 7.0m in height on the N corner of the white fort which is prominent. An aero radio beacon transmits from a position 2nm NNE of Sumbe Light.
